  • What if I have an emergency between sessions?
    If you experience a life threatening, mental health crisis between sessions, reach out to emergency resources such as the 988 - Suicide and Crisis hotline, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room. If it is not a life threatening crisis, contact your counselor for guidance.
  • How do I know if I need counseling?
    Consider seeking counseling if you are experiencing overwhelming emotions, difficulty coping with life changes, persistent sadness or anxiety, relationship issues, or if you want to work on personal growth and self-improvement.
  • What is counseling?
    Counseling is a professional relationship between a counselor and a client that focuses on helping the client address personal, emotional, and mental health issues. It aims to provide support, develop coping strategies, and promote personal growth.

  • Is Counseling Confidential?
    Yes, counseling is confidential. However, there are some exceptions, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, cases of abuse or neglect, or if required by law. Your counselor will explain these exceptions to you.
  • What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
    Agape requires a 24 hour notice and before 1:00 on Fridays for Monday appointments to avoid a late cancellation fee. This gives us time to fill your session slot with a person waiting to be seen. Our admin are happy to reschedule your appointment for a later date with any cancellation.
  • What can I expect during my first counseling session?
    Welcome to Agape Counseling Center! In your first session, our primary goal is to make you feel comfortable and understood. We recognize that taking the first step toward improving your mental health can be both courageous and nerve-wracking, and we are here to walk with you every step of the way. You'll meet with your professional counselor who will listen to your concerns and discuss your reasons for seeking therapy. Together, you'll explore your background, current challenges, and goals for counseling. This initial meeting is a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can share openly and ask any questions you may have. By the end of the session, you'll have a clearer understanding of the therapeutic process and started making a personalized plan we'll create to support your journey toward healing and growth.
  • What If I Don’t Feel Comfortable With My Counselor?
    It's important to feel comfortable with your counselor. If you don't, consider discussing your concerns with them. If the issue persists, it may be helpful to seek a different counselor who is a better fit for you. We would be happy to link you with another Agape therapist or give information to other therapists in your area.
  • What Is a Co-Pay?
    A co-pay is a fixed amount you pay for each counseling session, as determined by your insurance plan.
  • What is the Simple Practice Client Portal?
    The Simple Practice Client Portal is a secure, online platform where you can manage your appointments, access documents, make payments and communicate with your counselor. Your counselor’s office will send you an email invitation with a link to create your account. Follow the link and instructions to set up your portal access.
  • Does Agape offer in-person and Telehealth sessions?
    Yes, Agape offers both in-person and Telehealth sessions. We have therapists who offer Telehealth, in-person and hybrid. Telehealth counseling involves conducting sessions via phone or video calls. It has been shown to be as effective as in-person counseling for many issues. It offers convenience and accessibility, especially for those with mobility or transportation challenges.
  • Is my information secure on the Client Portal?
    Yes, the Client Portal uses encryption and other security measures to ensure your information is kept private and secure.
  • How Can I Find Out if My Insurance Covers Counseling?
    Our office administrators will do their very best to verify your coverage and benefits for mental health treatment. However, it will be the client’s ultimate responsibility to know their mental health insurance coverage. Contact your insurance provider directly or check your insurance policy details.
  • How Do I Choose the Right Counselor?
    Look for a licensed and qualified counselor who specializes in the issues you want to address. Consider their experience, approach, and whether you feel comfortable with them. It's important to find someone you can trust and connect with.
  • What Is a Deductible?
    A deductible is the amount you must pay out-of-pocket for covered services before your insurance starts to pay.
  • What can I Expect When I Call to Sign Up?
    When you call Agape Counseling Center, you'll speak with one of our friendly and knowledgeable administrative staff. They will gather some basic demographic and insurance information (if applicable) to ensure we can best serve your needs. Our admin team will then connect you with a therapist who best matches your specific requests and preferences. Lastly, they will schedule your initial appointment, give you access to your client portal, making the intake process smooth and stress-free. The admin team will let you know if you need to bring/upload anything your first session such as IDs, insurance cards and other paperwork.   • What is Co-Insurance?
    Co-insurance is a percentage of the cost of counseling services that you are responsible for paying after you have met your deductible.
